Hi,
Thanks for visiting.
Breaking the Flow is where I take apart the apps you use every day and point out all the weird stuff.
You know that moment when you’re trying to do something simple in an app and suddenly you’re lost in a maze of screens? Or when a button says one thing but does something completely different? Or when you’re pretty sure the app is trying to trick you into clicking the wrong thing? Yeah, that’s what we’re talking about.
I’ve spent 10 years in SaaS wearing different hats—UX writer, marketer, product builder—but I’m not here as an expert. I’m here as someone who uses apps constantly and gets unreasonably annoyed when they don’t work the way they should.
That weird combination of knowing how products get made and still getting frustrated by them as a user? That’s the lens for this newsletter.
So I document the chaos, figure out why it’s annoying, and then rebuild it in Figma to see if I can do better. (Spoiler: sometimes I can’t, but at least we learned something.)
Every week, a new app gets the treatment. We’ll find the friction, call out the dark patterns, laugh at the confusing copy, and generally have a good time being nitpicky about interfaces.
If you’ve ever rage-clicked through a poorly designed flow, or wondered who thought a particular feature was a good idea, or just enjoy watching someone overthink simple things, you’re in the right place.
Let’s break some flows.
Let’s be real. You won’t come back.
Irrespective of how great my content is, the chances of you seeing the page or coming back to this blog is very, very thin.
Because the internet is huge, and we miss out on many great things (like this newsletter).
So email’s our best shot at staying in touch. So, please subscribe to this newsletter.
